As part of our collaboration efforts and commitment to driving the Hygiene practices, NBCC, Practical Action and the Turkana County Government, distributed 200 hand washing stations, soap and hand hygiene information in Turkana County. Practical Action continues to demonstrate that no distance is too far to support low-income communities through water sanitation and hygiene interventions (WASH) in the fight against COVID-19. Launching the distribution exercise, Turkana County Executive Committee Member in charge of the health department Jane Ajele, lauded development and private sector partners for supporting Turkana County government to curb the spread of COVID-19, by accelerating mass hand washing efforts.

Corona virus is now at the community transmission phase and hand washing is still one of the most important steps towards stopping the spread of the virus, in addition to social distancing and wearing a mask.

Witnessing the distribution of hand washing stations in Lokori, Turkana East Sub-County, Ajele further commended Practical Action’s efforts of improving water access in Turkana East, where the agency had recently drilled two boreholes in Lokwii and Lotubae villages that are currently serving a population of over 12,000 people.

Lydian Napeyok, acting area Chief of Lokori Location said the distribution of handwashing stations has complemented the county’s efforts of implementing the WHO and National Government's prevention guidelines on COVID-19. "This assistance reinforces and complements the government efforts in ensuring all citizens remain safe and free from COVID-19” said Napeyok

Also present was 46 year old, Joseph Achuka, Chairman of persons living with disability in Turkana East Sub-County and beneficiary of Practical Action's projects. ”Your intervention is invaluable and as a community we are extremely grateful for your support” He  also thanked the organization for its quick response on addressing challenges that have come up as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic”

Practical Action, remains a key partner for NBCC for their ability to reach some of the remotest parts of the Country, therefore ensuring that No one is left behind. We continue to jointly collaborate in the fight against Corona.
